      Description

      Dear node team,

We have received the following issue from MyFarm project (one of the projects granted by Fractals accelerator)

      "Hello!

Today our two instances in Berlin2 node has been shut down.We cannot power them on again. The instances are with IP addresses:

      • 192.168.1.209
      • 192.168.1.141

We know that FIWARE Lab is in a reorganization process and Berlin2 node is planned to be closedand we expected something like that to happen.
But we have some questions regarding that:

      • Is that shutdown of our instances planned or incidental?
      • Will Berlin2 continue to work and does it worth launching and configuring new instances in that node?
      • When our instances will be moved to another node?

Please note that we are now currently at stage of interim reporting of our FRACTALS project - MyFarm and we have planned to
demonstrate our prototype to our technical mentor on 20.10.2015. So the questions above are very important for us in order to
ensure that we won't experience any technical problems during our reporting process.

Thank you in advance and please give us feedback as soon as possible.

      Thanks in advance

Further more, the Budapest node team has kindly agreed to help with the migration of your VMs. They found two VMs for your community account (tpeneva@centermine.com) on Berlin node, and they are in the process of transferring them to the Budapest node.

You will hear from us once this is completed.

          Dear Javier,

I have started a request for the Budapest node team.

In the meanwhile, do you know if Tanya and her team was able to follow the instructions below as indicated in Berlin node team's comments yesterday:

"The user should be still able to backup its images with the following commands.
          Create a Snapshot:
          nova image-create --poll exampleVM SnapshotName
          Download to local file system:
          glance image-download --file exampleVM.raw SnapshotID
If the user would like to get the backup of its images via HTTP download he needs to contact xifi-support@fokus.fraunhofer.de via mail to get the download URL and credentials."

"The user needs to execute the commands from a host that has the OpenStack CLI tools installed. The instances are down but the Nova and Glance API is still working.

Please consult FIWARE or OpenStack documentation for accessing OpenStack CLI.
          http://docs.openstack.org/user-guide/common/cli_install_openstack_command_line_clients.html

A snapshot of the instance can also be created by right-click on the instance name in the FIWARE Lab Portal instance view. But the FIWARE Lab Portal currently doesn't support image download afaik."

Could you kindly pass these two comments to them if you have not already done so?

          Thanks,

          • from tpeneva@centermine.com for MyFARM on the Berlin node
          • from tpeneva@nemetschek.bg for Farmbella on the Budapest node

Both community account requests appear to be handles by the Berlin and Budapest node teams. There is not mention of the Stockholm node in these requests.so I am not sure why Tanya thought her account was on Budapest node.

FYI, tpeneva@nemetschek.bg - for FARMBRELLA project was modified to add Spanish node to the Budapest one, for the access issue they reported for Valentin in ticket: https://jira.fiware.org/browse/HELP-5199

          Hope this clarifies, Kind regards,

Hi again. I have just received the following email from them:

          Hello again!

I think there was a mistake with my accounts.

I have two accounts on FIWARE Lab for two different projects.:

          tpeneva@nemetschek.bg - for FARMBRELLA project

          tpeneva@centermine.com - for MyFarm project

The problem with the shut down of Berlin2 node is for tpeneva@centermine.com - for MyFarm project.

That was the e-mail I contacted you first regarding this issue.

So this was the account that you have to transfer from Berlin2 to Budapest2.

But a few minutes ago I received e-mail that my other account (tpeneva@nemetschek.bg - for FARMBRELLA project), which was operating on Stockholm2 was changed.

So could you please restore my tpeneva@nemetschek.bg Account and change my tpeneva@centermine.com Account to Budapest2.

          Tank you and best regards,

          Tania

Hmm.. this is a pity. Ok, I will contact you separately, to see how we can avoid this situation in the future.

In theory, MyFarm team should have followed the link included in the email giving them notice about the Berlin node being shutdown, and they should have filled in the survey included in that link, so they would have gotten assistance from the node team in migrating their VMs. Do you know if they followed the link in that email and filled-in the survey for migration?

In the meanwhile, I will try to get help from the Berlin node team to resurrect one more time their instances. As soon as they are put online, we will need the MyFarm team to migrate their VMs to another node.

          Best regards,

          Dear Javier,

I do not understand this comment from the user about no support. Is there a communication breakdown somewhere?

The Berlin team added a comment on 20/Oct/15 3:59 PM:
"For once we will not shutdown their machines after they are restarted. You can tell the MyFarm team that they can restart their VMs. But they will be stopped at Monday the 26th October."

Did they not receive this comment? Have you passed this to them on Oct 20? in theory, they should have accessed their machine and migrated to another node before Oct 26. Did this not happen?

Could you kindly clarify what may be going on?

Please feel free also to share the URL for this ticket, as it is publicly viewable, and in case it helps: https://jira.fiware.org/browse/HELP-4888

          Hi

Here is the response from MyFarm

We had no feedback from you as a supporting team. I contacted you on 16.10.15 and since then we haven't received any instructions how to proceed so that we can use our resources again.

So the issue is still not resolved - we haven't been transferred to a working FIWARE node center after the Berlin2 node was shut down and the situation is still the same.

Please give me feedback what should we do?

Is that shutdown of our instances planned or incidental?

This shutdown was planned. We have noticed all our users via email about the fact, that we will stop all running instances at October the 16th.

Will Berlin2 continue to work and does it worth launching and configuring new instances in that node?

No. We will stop all newly launched instances.

When our instances will be moved to another node?

There was also an email a few weeks ago telling all users the procedure of migrating an instance to another region.

          Description Dear node team,

We have received the following issue from MyFarm project (one of the projects granted by Fractals accelerator)

          Hello!

Today our two instances in Berlin2 node has been shut down.We cannot power them on again. The instances are with IP addresses:
           - 192.168.1.209
           - 192.168.1.141

We know that FIWARE Lab is in a reorganization process and Berlin2 node is planned to be closedand we expected something like that to happen.
But we have some questions regarding that:
          - Is that shutdown of our instances planned or incidental?
          - Will Berlin2 continue to work and does it worth launching and configuring new instances in that node?
          - When our instances will be moved to another node?

Please note that we are now currently at stage of interim reporting of our FRACTALS project - MyFarm and we have planned to
demonstrate our prototype to our technical mentor on 20.10.2015. So the questions above are very important for us in order to
ensure that we won't experience any technical problems during our reporting process.

Thank you in advance and please give us feedback as soon as possible.

          Thanks in advance
