      Description

      Dear Sir/Madam,

The Department for Transport has commissioned Ricardo and Cambridge University to investigate the potential transport benefits from Big Data and IoT (Internet of Things) in a smart cities context.

      The work is examining:
      1. Existing evidence on big data and IoT
      2. Available datasets
      3. The benefits, the barriers and enablers
      4. Feasibility of open architectures and innovation platforms
      5. Skill shortages
      6. New business models
      7. Areas of connection between policy agendas

A very important part of the work is consultation with key experts. Specifically we would like to consult with key representatives of existing initiatives regarding the development and implementation of open architecture and innovation platforms.
Considering your involvement in Bristol is Open, we would be very grateful for your cooperation in this work. Therefore we would like to invite you to take part in a telephone interview to discuss your work in relation to technical, economic and legal/political feasibility. This information will enable us to develop good practice case studies in support to our analysis, and to understand what the key benefits, barriers and enablers are in this area.

If you are not available or not the best person from your organisation to participate, could you please put us in touch with an alternative contact.

Given the very short timescales for the work, a swift response would be very much appreciated; we would like to schedule interviews in the next two weeks if possible (and anticipate sending through some of the key questions/aspects we'd like to discuss in advance). We'd be happy to also have an initial discussion with you to discuss the work, if that would also be beneficial. Thank you.

If you would like to discuss this work further, please don't hesitate to get in touch with myself (contact details below) or Nikolas Hill (the Project Manager, Tel. 01235 753522, cc'd). Thank you.

      Kind regards

      Elena
