Dear Helpdesk,
thank you for your efforts. With respect to the request of my colleague, I would like to
enter the discussion and clarify some things.
1) We are using the FIWARE account for testing our NUBERISIM platform. Further below
you find more information on this to which I refer to a bit later in more detail (see
bullet point 4 + attachment).
2) The FIWARE account is registered under the eMail address
*pantle'et'nuberisim.de *
3) Overall, there is some confusion on expiration dates and nodes we can use. By
end of April 2016, we have extended our VMs in Spain and subsequently received
information that the VMs in Lannion2 were removed. We expected Spain to be
extended for 9 months. However, we found out that VMs at Lannion2 were never
removed and are still in our list of nodes. We started to compare Lannion2 with Spain
for our platform by May/June 2016.
Background Info:
From the beginning on (last year, summer 2015) Lannion was our first choice and
Spain was our second one. However, for Lannion, it turned out that the CentOs of
Lannion2 (which we urgently needed due to the set of libs we need) was not properly
compiled, the default user for logging is was not properly configured so we could not
use it. Instead we were assigned to Spain where the CentOs was properly set up.
However, from Germany the upload to Spain is extremely slow. Meanwhile the CentOs
at Lannion2 got an update so that we were able to test Lannion2 against Spain.
_As a consequence and in order to resolve the confusion: _
Currently, we would prefer:
--> Lannion with the current CentOs for our Nuberisim Platform
--> if required abandon Spain
*--> if required request an extension of Lannion (including potential shift to
Lannion3).*
4) As for our motivation to extend the account, please kindly take into account the
following (plus the attachment showing our inital application for FIWARE Cloud):
Fluid flow is noisy, annoying and health critical for people continuously
exposed to it. Examples are aircraft, wind turbines, automobiles,
climatization, household devices like hovers or kitchen hoods. For the
latter low noise devices are a competitive advantage. For others like wind
turbines restrictive noise regulations are in place, particularly when
operated close to settlements. Low noise design principles need
integration in the design and construction phase of devices as early as
possible, in order to reduce costs, failures, and improve energetic impact.
This can only be reached by numerical simulations. So far the
computational demand of fluid flow simulations coupled directly with
acoustical predictions inhibited establishing appropriate and efficient
workflows. Particularly, engineering houses (simulation service suppliers)
or SMEs require access to appropriate flow and noise prediction software
plus high performance computing architecture. In contrast to available
solutions the Nuberisim platform is solving both issues: providing
specialized software for coupled fluid flow and noise prediction as a web
application with intuitive access to a high performance computing
infrastructure (provided by computing centers or Cloud).
This project is both in need and ideally suited for running on the FIWARE
Cloud.
Our start-up Falquez, Pantle and Pritz GbR (founded in 2014) has
developed the Nuberisim platform concept. Nuberisim consists of the software for
fluid flow and noise simulation, largely developed at the Karlsruhe Institute
of Technology (KIT), and the platform environment. After successful
deployment of the prototype (see http://www.nuberisim.de), we regularly use the
FIWARE account in order to let professional simulation engineers test the usability of
our platform. These engineers help us to improve the platform GUI in a cost efficient
way which is extremely important for us in this phase. These engineers (mainly from
the Automotive sector and some of Academia) are current customers for which we
provide simulation services and are potential future customers for our Nuberisim
platform.
*Our platform is revolutionizing their simulation workflows, therefore it is of utmost
importance to provide a cost efficient test environment and access to small, but
representative test cases. This helps us to perform the step from providing simulation
services to providing the Nuberisim platform in order to attract customers' simulation
engineers doing their own simulations.*
We found that the following elements of the FIWARE Cloud and the FIWARE Enablers
are significantly leveraging the transition of our business model from providing
engineering/simulation services to providing the platform:
- Use 3 different Generic Enablers (see box "Additional Comments");
- Use the FIWARE Lab Cloud for free test accounts for our professional
pilot customers;
- Expand the service drastically at a second stage after testing through
professional customers.
The Enablers are needed to integrate efficient 3D visualisation of the
simulation data (grids, results), to efficiently render them for the
customers and stream them to their browsers. Next to testing the Enablers, the
FIWARE Lab Cloud is urgently needed at this moment for offering free test accounts for
professional customers. After several stages of "mass tests" with students the first
pilot customers for Nuberisim have been attracted, which are testing it on the FIWARE
premises.
However, the use load is not yet that far advanced that a 24/7 allocation of costly
instances e.g. at AWS or ProfitBricks is justified and feasible for our company. For a
market-uptake with positive revenue we still rely on the FIWARE premises for another 9
to 12 months.
Best regards,
Iris Pantle
