      Subject: general information

      Dear FIWARE Help Team,

I am currently carrying out research on open source initiatives for several of our clients in the ICT sector.
After having talked to the European Commission, I learnt that the FI-PPP will stop running, and that FIWARE will now have as new legal basis the FIWARE Foundation, supported by Telefonica and others.

I was wondering how exactly FIWARE will now be run in the future:

      1. Is it possible for big enterprises to contribute to the FIWARE platform, too? Or are only SMEs and Start Ups allowed to contribute?

      2. Is it possible to provide free services on the FIWARE platform, even if they have not been developed with FIWARE technology?

      3. If so, what criteria do they have to fulfill (given that they are meant for accelerating the development of services, and they are offered for free)

      4. If participation of big companies with their own service is possible, how exactly can a company integrate its own, free technology or platform into the FIWARE platform?

I would be very happy if you could provide me with answers on this. Please don't hesitate to call me if you need further clarity.
      Many thanks,

      Natascha Henry

        Dear Natascha,

Thank you for your interest in FIWARE. Now, answering your questions, currently you have different ways to collaborate with FIWARE, detailed as follows:

We have already drafted our governance model for the Open Source Community on how to contribute https://www.fiware.org/fiware-governance/

        > 1. Is it possible for big enterprises to contribute to the FIWARE platform, too? Or are only SMEs and Start Ups allowed to contribute?

Everyone is welcome to collaborate!! You can be part of course. Not limited to SMEs, on the contrary, there are membership rules that we are drafting. The FIWARE Foundation, which is a separated “entity” let’s say and this is open to any industry or company that wants to invest or participate. We are drafting the details, and all our current rules are here: https://www.fiware.org/foundation/

Also, you can see our community: https://www.fiware.org/fiware-community/

        > 2. Is it possible to provide free services on the FIWARE platform, even if they have not been developed with FIWARE technology?

Not sure if you can provide "free services" in becoming a member, we need to revise that in detail and agree the best approach. As for now, you can use the FIWARE lab, but it's true that after the summer there will be a fee, but we don’t have the fees, yet, set up.

        > 3. If so, what criteria do they have to fulfill (given that they are meant for accelerating the development of services, and they are offered for free)

N/A - as today we don't know exactly the rules/fees etc.

        > 4. If participation of big companies with their own service is possible, how exactly can a company integrate its own, free technology or platform into the FIWARE platform?

What do you mean with this question? Members are creating FIWARE instances to provide services on top of it. Do you have something similar in mind if you become a member?

Also, I have to say that FIWARE as such contributes the core foundation, that is to say, the GEs and GE reference implementations. These are provided by the consortium members but we have plans to open it up in coming months for our open community. If you have ideas to contribute to our GEris; please check here What is a FIWARE Geri:
