      Description

      Hi all,

just forwarding our question concerning PROSA FIWARE Enabler, since we
haven't received any answer from our initial email yet.

Does PROSA supports RESTful web services and Web API or is it used only for
      explicitly old-fashioned web services (WSDL)?

      thanks in advance,
      Dimitris Karantonis

      Subject: Prosa FIWARE tool question
      To: osama.sammodi@paluno.uni-due.de

      Hi osama,

I am going to use the PROSA FIWARE Enabler in order to test and monitoring
      our service.

However, according to the user guide the tool use wsdl (web services) calls.

Is it possible this tool to be used as a testing tool for RESTful web
services and Web API or it used only for explicitly old-fashing web
      services ?

      Thanks,

        Hi Ilknur,

indeed, our main concern is to provide quality services to our customers
and of course to fullfill our contractual obligations towards *FIWARE *and
        FRACTALS.

So, in order to make finalt decisions for our team:

        • *PROSA *can be skipped since it is no longer supported
        • *UFT framework *could be optionally used by our team, but could also be
skipped since it is not supported and moreover it is not a contractual
          obligation.

        Could you confirm?

Yes, I confirm, you are not contractually obliged to use any of the two frameworks, as they are not officially supported.

But you are free to use them of course if you find them useful even without support.

If your question on whether it is ok to not use PROSA enabler any more, is more an inquiry in terms of contractual obligation to FIWARE, then the answer is yes, it is ok not to use it anymore if it does not meet your needs.

The enabler Davide pointed you can indeed be helpful, however just keep in mind that both enablers (Unit Functional Testing Framework and PROSA) are not officially supported/maintained any more.

        Hope this help. Kind regards,

        Dear Dimitris,
an alternative option is to take a look at the "Unit Functional Testing Framework" (http://catalogue.fiware.org/enablers/unit-functional-testing-framework) that is made for RESTful APIs.
As this is a framework it most probably require more development, in terms of writing the code you need, but it's based on a good and flexible library for REST testing.

I hope this can help you in solving your situation.

        Hi all,

We have included PROSA fiware enabler to be included in our Real Time Continuous Apiary Monitoring System project and to be used as an online testing framework to ensure the constant availability of QoS monitoring data for our services provided.

In our project, we are using the latest technology trends and as a result, we provide services to the web via REST API. We currently realized that PROSA enabler is not compatible with REST API, instead it uses old fashioned wsdl web services.

Since it is not possible to implement our services again in order to be compatible with PROSA enabler, we asked for support. We got the following answers:
        • From David Dalle Carbonare:
“the PROSA tool is not evolving any more in the context of FIWARE but I put you in contact (in a separate email) with the organization that is developing that tool”
        • From Andreas Metzger (forwarded from David as PROSA developing tool responsible):
        “PROSA indeed only supports WSDL”

So, due to the facts that PROSA does not support REST API, but most important that it does no longer evolving in the context of FIWARE, we would like to exclude its usage from our project.

Could this be acceptable from your side according to the reasons provided?

        Thanks in advance,
