Description
Hi,
I'm starting to fiddle with Orion, and saw that the containers available
on FiWare cloud only use v0.19.
Despite the availability in Docker registry of running fresher versions,
such as 0.23, is it possible to run it on FiWare Cloud?
If not is there an IaaS that you would recommend or have tested easy
deployment of GE's at?
Other consideration is that the v2 API is quite an upgrade on v1, and
despite not being in production yet, is there an estimate as to when it
will be? (If it's in two weeks I won't bother to write a v1 API client.)
Best,
Joao Figueiredo

Dear Joao,
Regarding your question to FIWARE mailing list, please find answers inline.
I'm starting to fiddle with Orion, and saw that the containers available
on FiWare cloud only use v0.19.
I understand you mean FIWARE blueprints? I'm not aware of blueprint status (please, ask to Henar Muñoz <henar.munozfrutos@telefonica.com> about it if you need) but anyway I would recommend the deployment mechanisms described in slides 32 and 33 at http://bit.ly/fiware-orion
Despite the availability in Docker registry of running fresher versions,
such as 0.23, is it possible to run it on FiWare Cloud?
As you will see in the aforementioned slides, both docker and FIWARE Lab cloud are valid deployment options.
If not is there an IaaS that you would recommend or have tested easy
deployment of GE's at?
Orion can easily run in CentOS/RedHat using the RPM package available in the FIWARE yum repository (see installations instructions at https://github.com/telefonicaid/fiware-orion#build-and-install). Thus any IaaS providing CentOS/RedHat images would be suitable.
Other consideration is that the v2 API is quite an upgrade on v1, and
despite not being in production yet, is there an estimate as to when it
will be? (If it's in two weeks I won't bother to write a v1 API client.)
You can check the development status at the following document: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1f4m624nmO3jRjNalGE11lFLQixnfCENMV6dc54wUCCg/edit#gid=50130961. As you can see, a large part of the API (the one related with entities/attributes management) is scheduled for Orion 0.24.0, to be released in early September. However, note that NGSIv2 would still being experimental in such 0.24.0 release as some adjustment in the operation may be done in the next months while we complete the NGSIv2 API implementation... I'm afraid that is not a matter of 2 weeks.
Thus, my recommendation is to write an v1 API client.
Best regards,
