      Description

      Hello,

I've just created a cloud instance and can't seem to connect to it. I'm
running windows and I've created a keypair and downloaded it and created
the instance of a Ubuntu. I've converted the <file_name>.pem to a
<file_name>.ppk for Putty. When I try to connect to the virtual machine's
ip using the ppk file I get "Connection timeout" error.
It may be that I've missed a step or done something wrong.
      Waiting for a replay.

      Alexandru Gheorghe

        Dear Alexandru,

the main problem in this situation is the security group is wrong.
Please check the port 22 in the security group. If it is missing you
        cannot connect to the VM.
Please write which region do you use, and we will check the problem.

        Best regards,
        Gergő

        Hello,

I've already added port 22 in the security group and I'm using the Spain
        region.
Initially I was able to connect but I was asked for a user and password,
after I added the keypair certificate I just got "Connection timeout" error.

I'm using Ubuntu12.04-server-x86_64. It would be really helpful if you had
a tutorial for connecting to an instance from Windows 8.1 using Putty.

In Putty, you need to set the user name to root/ubuntu
(Connection->Data->Auto-login name), and set the .ppk key
(Connection->SSH->Auth->Private key), and the Host is your Floating IP.

I still can't seem to connect to the instance, getting the same error. I
        think I'm configuring something wrong.
Can you check if I've created the instance properly?

You mentioned your VM is on Spain node. Spain node support can see your
VM. I forwarded earlier your problem for them.
