      Description

      Hi !

I currently created a linux virtual machine on Fiware. I can access the
virtual machine by using ssh with the floating ip. I can also establish the
reverse ssh tunneling by using ssh. The only problem is that the "nmap"
command performed on the virtual machine returns different results.
Specifically "nmap localhost" shows that the port specified by the reverse
tunneling is open, but "nmap <floatingip>" does not show any other port.
Should the two commands show the same list ? How can i open the desired
      port on <floatingip>?

      Thanks for your help,
      Alessandra Sorrentino

That questtion is not exactly related to FIWARE Lab but to the usage of SSH itself.

Anyway, the answer is: it depends. It depends on how you use ssh -R,

        a) ssh -R <remote_port>:localhost:22 <user>@<remote_host> — Then, SSH will only do a reverse port for localhost and it is normal that difference in nmap
        b) ssh -R <remote_host>:<remote_port>:localhost:22 <user>@<remote_host> — Then, SSH will try to do open a connection in the remote host for everybody (so maybe no nmap difference), but this depends on your sshd_config file.

        Regards,
        José Ignacio
