      Description

      Dear all,

I'm going to install the Monitoring GE on a VM on the Spanish node of Filab.

At the moment I'm trying to install the "NEB" Nagios event Broker on an
      Ubuntu 12.04 VM (Public ip :130.206.85.6, Private ip: 10.0.4.236 ) that I'd
like to monitor but when I launch the command "apt-get install
      fiware-monitoring-ngsi-event-broker" I get the following output :

      Reading package lists... Done

      Building dependency tree

      Reading state information... Done

E: Unable to locate package fiware-monitoring-ngsi-event-broker

Do you have an idea to solve the problem?

What's the meaning of the sentence "Assuming FIWARE package repositories are
configured" ? How I can configure the package repositories?

        Hi Pablo,

        thanks for your answer.

I have tried to install the “fiware-monitoring-ngsi-adapter_1.2.0_all.deb” and “fiware-monitoring-ngsi-event-broker_1.4.0_amd64.deb” as root user(which I have previously downloaded into my VM).

        Here are the problems/errors …..

First of all, when I launched the “dpkg -i fiware-monitoring-ngsi-adapter_1.2.0_all.deb” command I got the following error:

        dpkg -i fiware-monitoring-ngsi-adapter_1.2.0_all.deb

(Reading database ... 55554 files and directories currently installed.)

        Unpacking fiware-monitoring-ngsi-adapter (from fiware-monitoring-ngsi-adapter_1.2.0_all.deb) ...

        /var/lib/dpkg/tmp.ci/preinst: 54: /var/lib/dpkg/tmp.ci/preinst: node: not found

        dpkg: error processing fiware-monitoring-ngsi-adapter_1.2.0_all.deb (--install):

subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 127

        Errors were encountered while processing:

        fiware-monitoring-ngsi-adapter_1.2.0_all.deb

Second, I cannot find the Nagios service to be stopped.

Third when I launched the “dpkg -i fiware-monitoring-ngsi-event-broker_1.4.0_amd64.deb” it worked without errors but when I tried to configure the “/etc/nagios/nagios.cfg” file (as written in the “Usage” chapter of the NEB guide) I could not find it. (Find attached a .docx file with two screenshot of my VM filesystem).

Do you have any idea about how to solve the problem? What am I doing wrong?

        Dear Leandro:

In this moment "apt-get install" won't work because no APT package repository is available to download the FIWARE packages (this is what "Assuming FIWARE package repositories are configured" refers to). When, in a future, respository is ready, you'll have to add it to your /etc/apt/sources.list

As an alternative, you can download the .deb file from <https://forge.fi-ware.org/frs/?group_id=7&release_id=544#cloud-monitoring-4-1-1-title-content> https://forge.fi-ware.org/frs/?group_id=7&release_id=544#cloud-monitoring-4-1-1-title-content and install it using "gdebi" or "dpkg" commands.

        Dear Leandro:

The first and third problems that you mention (when installing .deb package files with "dpkg") are due to dependency checking: the packages depend on other packages that have to be previously installed. In order to install automatically not only the package itself but also its dependencies, I recommend you to use "gdebi" instead.

The second problem is somehow analogous: the package implicitly assumes Nagios is already installed and running. Latest versions of this package include a explicit dependency checking for Nagios.

IN ANY CASE, I'm afraid you are misunderstanding the usage of this components. I've re-read your original problem:

"[...] at the moment I'm trying to install the "NEB" Nagios event Broker on an Ubuntu 12.04 VM (Public ip :130.206.85.6, Private ip: 10.0.4.236 ) that I'd like to monitor [...]"

VMs are automatically monitored by underlying Cloud Infrastructure: you shouldn't do anything, it's our task to do all the work. These monitoring components you mention (NGSI Adapter & Nagios NGSI Event Broker) are intended for the IO – Infrastructure Owner – to setup monitoring for the aforementioned Cloud infrastructure.

In case some monitoring agents or similar software were required to run in the VM, we would take care of setting them up automatically when launching the VM, without any intervention on your own.

        Hope this explanation helps.

        Dear Pablo,

I am going to give you details about the scenario where we are working on FINESCE (which is 2nd phase project, like FITMAN).

We have to integrate FIWARE GEs in the architecture of an energy marketplace (which is the output of FINESCE WP4).

We have set up a couple of VMs into FI-Lab; there, both all the software developed within FINESCE Wp4 and our “private” instance of GEs (such as ORION or PROTON) are running.

We need to increase the number of GEs we have to integrate as our target KPI is very ambitious.

We thought we could have used Monitoring GE in order to monitor the state of our private instance of GEs.

So, if you say that “:……VMs are automatically monitored by underlying Cloud Infrastructure…….”, would you provide a panel to be used by FI-Lab users?

More, if we would like to monitor the VM where our instance of ORION is running, for instance, would we need to have an agent installed on it? Would you be in charge for the installation? Where would we eventually look for the monitored behavior? Would we need some special credentials to access the monitoring panel?

Please let us know the correct procedure to put the “monitoring” stuff in place.

        Regards,

        Leandro
