      Description

      Dear Mr, Mrs,
We have received the following question, could you check if our potential answer is correct.

      1. Does any of Generic Enablers of IoT supply as underline transfer layer the GSM/GPRS network?

“Potential answer” As far as we know there is no GE of IoT chapter that offers native connection with GSM/GPRS network. Therefore it has to be implemented if needed such a connection, using the current GEs functionalities.

      2. More specifically the IDAS enabler except the SensorML, does support the MQTT (Message Queue Telemetry Transport)? Especially for cellular networks there is another variant of MQTT, the MQTT - SN (Sensor Network)? Does any of the Enablers support them?
Is any presentation about IDAS enabler which expand and cover the whole features and the scope of IDAS enabler?

“Potential answer The IDAS enabler and other GEis of Iot chapter don't support MQTT . In FIspace for example where MQTT needed to be used it was customly handled by the Consortium.

We would suggest the questioner to have a look in the overview section of all GEis here: http://catalogue.fi-ware.org/enablers?chapter_tid=5 but the documentation section if something is vague.

          Subject: RE: Fractacls Iot Doubts

          Dear Carmen,

Omer and Burak has investigated the questions below, and here is what we have:

          1. We did not come across any IoT features that support native connection with GSM/GPRS networks. We are double checking with the IoT Chapter architect to see if this is something planned for any upcoming releases.

          2. It seems MQTT support will be delivered in the upcoming Sprint release (March 2015). But will not support MQTT-SN. Here is the full detailed answer from the IDAS GE owner:
“Actually, IDAS component is delivered at the end of this sprint (month) as a collection of per-protocol modules called "IoT-Agents" and it supports Ultralight2.0, MQTT and OMA-LWM2M/CoAP.
          It does not support MQTT-SN.

I expect the documentation to be updated along the next month (March 2015).

So I would say the most appropriate answer is that it is supporting this in the next release to be issued on March 2015.
Actually we do use UL2.0 over MQTT. See Slide 17 at http://www.slideshare.net/CARLOSRALLIUCENDO/fiware-io-tproposalcommunitydetailed

In terms of documentation, we can point them to the IoT chapter in FIWARE catalogue as you said, also the IoT chapter in FIWARE academy, and the newly published Technical whitepaper. I am attaching it here.

There is also an overall presentation about developing first applications with FIWARE, it has some IoT related examples, incase it’s useful:
