Dear Colin,
Thank you for your interest in FIWARE.
Now, answering your question, currently you have different ways to collaborate with FIWARE, detailed as follows:
We have already drafted our governance model for the Open Source Community on how to contribute https://www.fiware.org/fiware-governance/
Apart from that, there’s we have FIWARE Foundation , which is a separated “entity” let’s say and this is open to any industry or company that wants to invest or participate. We are drafting the details, but in any case the most updated here can be found in this link: https://www.fiware.org/foundation/
Also, you can see our community: https://www.fiware.org/fiware-community/
FIWARE as such contributes the core foundation, that is to say, the GEs and GE reference implementations. These are provided by the consortium members but we have plans to open it up in coming months to open a community. If you have ideas to contribute to our GEris; please check here What is a FIWARE Geri:
http://forge.fiware.org/plugins/mediawiki/wiki/fiware/index.php/FIWARE_Frequently_Asked_Questions_%28FAQ%29#What_is_a_FIWARE_GEri.3F
This is to say, that you should see what are the GEs that you would like to use in your system and match your needs. Also check our IoT chapter http://fiwaretourguide.readthedocs.org/en/latest/connection-to-the-internet-of-things/introduction/ and see the current GEs that are available in the catalogue. For further questions on IoT also you can contact my colleague in cc Carlos Ralli.
Best regards,
Malena
