[Fiware-general-help] Installing the FIWARE platform

      Description

      Dear Administrator,

      I'm a research student from the University of Bristol, I am looking for the
      link to download the platform but I cannot find it, do you know how I can
      install the platform on my computer?

        Dear Mr. Meng,

        This is not so simple. I'd advise taking a look at our FAQ to first understand what FIWARE is and how this works.

        In short, FIWARE provides the so-called Generic Enablers . Generic means that they can be applied to no matter what industry, they are general purpose artefacts.

        The best approach to see how FIWARE can help you is to go to our catalogue (http://catalogue.fi-ware.org/enablers) that provides pointers to all relevant resources for each GE. The catalogue concentrates the information of all the the available GEs with all the links to the manuals, open specs, terms of use, etc. . We also offer a free environment for experimentation (http://lab.fi-ware.org/) where you can test whatever you may need. It is up to you to browse the catalogue and see what we provide.

        You may also be interested in our eLearning page, the FIWARE Academy (http://edu.fi-ware.org/)

        Dear Mr. Meng,

        Whether you use openstack for your developments or not is up to you. This is not essential (unless you are developing cloud related GEs, I assume that this not the case). If you use our cloud facilities (FIWARE Lab) you would have an underlying open stack platform but this should be transparent for your work.

        You choose the GEs you need, you develop the app you want - both will talk to each other using the REST façades (see the open specs for further details).
