I guess you already visited http://cosmos.lab.fi-ware.org/cosmos-gui/ (as
stated in
http://catalogue.fiware.org/enablers/bigdata-analysis-cosmos/instances) in
order to create a Cosmos account by using your FIWARE LAB credentials, and
you already have your username in the global instance of Cosmos. If that¹s
the case, you probably have tried to ssh the instance:

$ ssh <your_cosmos_username>@cosmos.lab.fi-ware.org

Once you enter there, you only have to perform a Unix passwd command in
order to change your password.

Regarding the REST API for uploading data, it is the standard WebHDFS, you
can find a reference to it at

lysis_-_User_and_Programmer_Guide#Using_a_custom_client_2

Finally, there is no image at the cloud nor blueprint template for Cosmos
since this is a enabler using a large cluster of machines (bare metal or
virtual) and users have a very limite quota in FIWARE cloud.

You need to create a cosmos account. Or if you would like to install own
VM, you can find the install guide here:

In the install guide you can find the REST API call examples in the
'Infinity (storage cluster)' section.

I think the small flavor is enough for Hadoop VM.

I’m able to login and access the COSMOS GE now, all good!

The guide says we need a minimum of three machines—so you’re suggesting we have 3 machines with small VM configuration each?

Also, do we have HBASE available on the COSMOS GE? I didn’t see that in the documentation.

Dear Yasir,

It seems you did not see my previous email. As the GE owner, I was telling
you to create an account on the global instance deployed at FIWARE LAB, as
Gergo suggested you as well (thanks!). I was also telling you to not
deploy your own instance of Cosmos since it requires a large cluster of
machines (physical or virtual); this is something addressed for large
operators and service providers (as an analogy, you don't deploy your own
cloud, you use it; that's the same for Cosmos). Anyway, the minimum number
of machines (3) stated in the documentation is just for demonstration
purposes; and, such an implementation for this enabler is going to change
in upcoming sprints. So, please, use the global instance.

Thanks for the note--it is now very clear! I'm now using the global instance.

Just a point of feedback though: my account info@connecterra.nl was upgraded to a community account and I can no longer use that on cosmos GE. However, after creating a new FiWare account, I can login to the GE instance with the password I created--although I'm not sure if there is a difference between a standard and community account on the GE.

Secondly, we are trying to use the WebHDFS /REST API to program against COSMOS, but we're not clear how we can perform actions that require authorization. The programming guide doesn't seem to have the instructions on how we can authenticate against the REST API. Are we missing anything?
