Description
Dear SOUL-FI FI-WARE coaching team,
please find below some questions coming from an Italian company (cc’d) which is preparing a Round B2 proposal submission, we kindly ask you to support us in providing some answers, in order to help them with their project definition/drawing up.
1. Fiware platform exposed Iass and Saas services.
2. Iass context: is it possible to create Microsoft virtual machine or Linux based only?
3. Saas context: the Generic Enablers are, substantially, RESTful web services,. They use autorization tokens and Rest (get/put) calls, assuring their use in any http interface languages.
This means that we can use one of this generic enablers from our application to satisfy the Fiware platform use conditions? Or, otherwise we must develop all our application with all Fiware platform technologies?
4. In summary: we must work exclusively with open-source instruments, Linux, Java, Python, Mysql, Hadoop, Node.js, etc?
Thanks in advance for your support and we stay available for any further deepening along with the requesting company.
BR
Alessandro

Dear Alessandro,
My answers:
1. Fiware platform exposed Iass and Saas services.
2. Iass context: is it possible to create Microsoft virtual machine or Linux based only?
Currently, only Linux based images can be deployed. Having Windows VMs would lead to licensing issues.
There are GEs which are mainly RESTful services. Other GEs are indeed SDKs. There are mechanism to provide access control to both cases. You should use one or more GEs as part of your architecture, the higher number the better (taking into account feasibility); the more important they are in the architecture, the better; but you don’t need at all to use all the GEs.
4. In summary: we must work exclusively with open-source instruments, Linux, Java, Python, Mysql, Hadoop, Node.js, etc?
You can use open source tools (those provided by FIWARE or any other), or include and integrate other commercial software as long as you have the proper license to use them.
Best Regards,
Sergio.
