Dear Mr Varandas,
In the myCultureTrip project that we are currently developing we were
planning to use the Location Platform GE.
However we realised that the enabler is not listed under the generic
enablers in the FIWARE catalogue anymore so we tried to track the
developer. We were directed to Thales Alenia Space (Mr. Challamel Remi) and
they told us that the enabler is not any more supported internally in TAS-F
and the product and its IPR had been tranfered to their sister company
'Telespazio'. We were forwarded a Telespazio contact and after some email
exchanges and conference calls, we realised that they are going to
comercialize the product and also use it to participate in H2020 projects.
This means that this is not an FIWARE enabler anymore and in order for us
to use it in the future, we might be requested to purchase a license.
We have researched in the FIWARE catalogue but there is no other similar
enabler that can cover the functionality we indented to do with Location
Platform GE. We have already brought the issue to our coach (Mrs
Maria Augusta Mancini) and she thought it shouldn't be a problem not to
integrate with one enabler since we have already integrated with the other
six enablers we planned.
Do you think it will be a problem for DOTSOFT or for SOULFI, if we use one
enabler less than the ones we originally planned to? For the record we have
already tracked other ways to verify a users location using third party
tools so that won't be a problem for our project.
Looking forward to your answer at your earlier convenience,
Have a great weekend,
Regards,
Stavros

Dear Nuno,
As the mail says, the Location Platform was deprecated due to the open source policy. There’s no other GE carrying out the same functionality (integrated with the mobile network), although the context broker geographical queries features might be enough in some cases. That might be explored.
On the other hand, I guess it’s ok not using Location GE as long as there are other relevant and core enablers used.
Best Regards,
Sergio.
